Friends of Lake Jesup

Draft Minutes

Call to order: Chairman Robert King called meeting of June 21, 2007 to order 7:05 pm at the Orange Boating Club. 

A sign in sheet was passed around, so a list of attendees is available. 

Minutes where accepted with a couple of spelling errors and Nick gave the presentation not John these items where brought to board’s attention and corrected. 

Reports by other members:
  1. B-Map meeting was discussed in length, some of the comments where cities closest to the lake have responsibility to clean it up but cities father away may be hesitant to put as much into the clean up. Everyone is being encouraged to attend TMDL meetings.  
  2. Comments where made about doing an out reach to the community should be started with ad campaigns to one on one, to educate people on the TMDL issue. 
  3. Concerns on the action plan, the Government need Friends of Lake Jesup input in the next 3 weeks. 
  4. Florida Lake Management Society meeting was a packed house. The attendees listened to the presentation on Lake Jesup and had no idea that the lake had so many issues. Robert King was given an award on his work on Lake Jesup by this group. 
  5. Army Corps is responsible for the project channels and where it goes, Coast Guard only puts up the markers they do not decide where the location of a channel goes. So the issue with the new 46 bridge to sustain navigable waters falls on The Army Corps. 
  6. A digital file on soverern submerged lands will be sent to Robert for our files. 
  7. Friends needs to compile a list of accomplishments, the list of agency and the progress we have made over the past 10 years, to help focus future action. 
  8. Alice Gilmartin has been hired to work for Florida Turnpike Enterprise as a regional planner. 
  9. Send out meeting info on the 417 alignment the evening of the meeting. 
  10. Robert spoke a bit about new blood in the group and looking to the future of the group and leadership roles.
